The secret to being happy is to always be creating happiness. It is something that you actively DO. It isn’t something you find…so you can stop looking and start BEING happy right now, today.

You are a creator. It is your birthright to use this power to design a life filled with joy.

The power of creating is within you; it has always been there all along. You’ve just been influenced by marketing messages to think that if you “buy” something you’ll be happy. You’ve been trained to believe that happiness is somewhere “out there.”

But the true power of happiness comes from within. All you have to do is tap into it.

What I’m about to share with you is simple. It is free. It doesn’t cost anything unless you want it to. You can do it day or night. You can do it all by yourself, with your family, friends, co-workers, support groups, cities…you name it.

The power of happiness is limitless. So don’t think there isn’t enough happiness in the world for you, because there is an unlimited supply waiting for you to tap into.

1. Decide you want to be happy

Repeat after me, “From now on, I choose to be happy. I commit to changing my life because I’m worth it, I deserve it, and I am in charge. I am a creator and from now on, I’m creating happiness.”

2. Create thought patterns of happiness

We can spend days on this topic alone, but simply stated, if you find yourself in a negative thought pattern, DISRUPT IT! Start thinking about what you are grateful for, look for the good, think about what you are looking forward to or reflect on something positive.

3. Do more of what makes you happy

List out what you find joy in. Is it watching the sunset? Reading a book? Spending time with friends and family? After you have your list, plan these activities into your day. Every day. Day after day.

4. Protect your happiness

Once you start creating happiness, you may find some friction in the form of negative thoughts, people or activities that take away from your happiness. Identify them and minimize or eliminate them. You’ll be so glad you did and you’ll make room for all of the happiness you desire and more.

5. Share your happiness with others

Happiness is a gift that grows when you share it with others. Smile more. Say good morning. Be a force for good. Lighten someone’s load. Give. Make this world one that everyone is happy to dwell in. You’ve got this!

Get creative with Creating Happiness. I once was watching funny cat videos as I cleaned up after my teenagers. I was so mad at the fact I was cleaning again that I found myself thinking up a storm of all the nasty I wanted to unload on them when they got home. Instead, I decided to disrupt my thought patterns by watching something funny. (Cat videos always get my funny bone!) It worked like a charm!
